As far as we are concerned, the principle of secularism is a founding principle of our Union. Für uns ist die Laizität ein Grundprinzip unserer Union. That is why I propose that the 2006 budget include funding for meetings held on the theme of ‘Secularism and humanism within a network of European towns’. Daher schlage ich vor, dass der Haushalt 2006 auch die Finanzierung von Treffen zum Thema „Laizität und Humanismus in einem europäischen Städtenetz“ vorsieht. Nonetheless, I am convinced that the rights of the people of Europe will only improve if we build a strong, political Europe based on the principle of secularism. Dennoch bin ich überzeugt, daß die Rechte der europäischen Bürger nur vorankommen werden, wenn wir ein starkes politisches Europa errichten, das sich auf den Grundsatz der Laizität gründet.
